Acknowledgement

You can't do the book project alone. So far, so many people have been involved that I would like to give you an excerpt of those who have become involved here and helped to advance our sport.

More than 1,100 amateur and professional athletes have already contributed, which is terrific. I would like to thank all these great people for supporting and promoting my idea.

The book would not have been possible if I had not received support from many great people. To these people I would like to express my thanks in almost chronological order for supporting this project of a book series on the subject of Budo games and for accompanying me on my way. No, we are not at an Oscar award ceremony and this is only a technical book, as there are many on the market. A thank you however should be natural for the many supporters. In the "Budo Sport" the respect towards others as well as the work or cooperation of others is an important factor, which should also be expressed here

Thanks to my Wolfgang Buttler!

The first and most important person to whom I am deeply grateful is my father. Without him nothing would have been possible. From my childhood, adolescence to the present day, he has supported me permanently financially and especially mentally. No matter if it was the club fees in the beginning or if he drove my brother and me every week to the training, on weekends to tournaments and courses, he sacrificed a lot of his time for my long learning path and success. Today, he continues to provide me with his fleet of vehicles so that I can also accommodate any extensive training material and drive to clubs. Always comes along to events and helps in the organization. Thank you for always being there for me and helping me with any open questions! I wish every child that he also has a father like you at his side!

Thanks to all Trainers & Uke!

What would a workout be without a trainer? Empty and boring! Therefore, a big thank you to the many trainers from the various associations and clubs with whom I was allowed to train. Thank you for your ideas, suggestions, your technical skills and your own individual training style. There is always a spark from everyone, shaping you as a trainer or as a fellow trainer.

And what would be a training without Uke? Not possible! Thanks to the many uke who have accompanied me on this path over the years. If there are no training partners, one can hardly become better in things and above all also not try out other things. No matter if in competition or in training. As in this case also game and exercise forms. Without you the mat would be empty and my training without joy. To all the others out there: Take care of your uke and your coaches, because you need them! And they need you!

Thanks to my editing team!

You were allowed to read many pages and pull out the red pen. No matter if it was a careless mistake, a mental leap or a technically wrong name, your eagle eyes recognized a lot. Likewise, when the text did not make any sense because of jumps in thought or layout changes, you discreetly pointed out these inconsistencies with question marks. A special thank you for reading the rough script for the first pure basic understanding without pictorial material to Corinna Bildat (Vice President Ju-Jutsu Rhineland-Palatinate), who had swung the colored pencil on the daily way with the subway to work for weeks. Walter Hochmuth from Mainburg then had the pleasure of revising the finished book, including any visual material and thus in its entirety, and sending error devils to the devil. Also thanks to Miriam Rietzler (Polizei Sportverein Grünweiß Frankfurt), who also went through many pages and reduced sources of error. Francisco de la Fuente had the kindness to expand Japanese terms in the glossary by several meanings. His brother Juan de la Fuente helped me with language problems with our Spanish sports friends. Many thanks to both of you for this as well.

Thank you Graphics, Design & IT!

That was heavy in my stomach for a long time, the dear layout. If there had not been the dear Isabel Michle from Ludwigsburg, who patiently listened to my bubbling thoughts and converted them into first drafts. After further special requests, these were also converted into a great final layout and various templates were created for the different ways of displaying images and text. Thank you for your patience until I could handle all templates in the graphics program myself. Also many thanks to Maria Sofia Hämmerling from Cuxhaven, who created many flyers for the courses and also provided graphic support here. Not to forget Andreas Mittelstädt from Asperg, who as an IT specialist took over the PC breakdown service at any time of the day or night and contributed to the success of this book. Especially when two hard disks gave up the ghost and threatened to take several TB of photos with them into the hereafter. Thanks to your recovery and the provision of an additional MacBook, the completion was guaranteed. Without you I would often have been stuck, so thank you very much!

Photos

An inspiration for years is of course the judo photo pioneer David Finch (www.judophotos.com and www.judo.photos). As a child I always admired his photos in various print media, but at that time the athlete or the technique on the photos was more interesting and well known than the photographer himself. Today the name is a household name - thank you for the many great judo moments you captured and shared with us over the many decades at Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships, etc. However, very special thanks go to Günter Beier (http://guenterbeier-fotojournalist.de and www.fightandfun.de). The many hours of seminars together on the mat or at scenario trainings, the many telephonic conversations and the lively professional exchange associated with them were refreshing and motivating. The positive competition at courses or championships, for the coolest photo of the day and the associated perfect moments or change of perspectives, has always brought me forward. Not to forget that you immediately made your picture material available for this project, for example from the World Games, or were available for shootings and also shot the photos for the covers with me. Thank you for your time and your friendship! I would also like to thank Holger Marohn from the Lübecker Nachrichten, who as a professional photographer has been showing me tips and tricks on the camera for years, which have increased my image quality and the associated joy of taking photos as well as the results.

Also all photographers, who were named in the imprint at the picture credits, deserve my greatest respect and deepest thanks! Without the provision of your photos and thus your time, your know-how and your expensive equipment this volume would not have the necessary variety and would also not present further facets of our Budosport. Above all, take a look at the website of the world-class photographer Boris Teofanovic www.judophotography.com . He captures pure emotions at championships and inspires with his judo moments, which he records for posterity. Thank you for your great contribution to this book project!  It's nice to meet people like you who live for our sport and make a great contribution.

Participating clubs

After all the texts for the various book volumes were in place, many models from our sport were of course necessary. For this, many clubs in almost all federal states as well as neighboring countries were available to me. Here training sessions were held in the form of a course and all photos were taken from the game or training. Accordingly, nothing was posed here, but shows the unvarnished joy of our sport. Many people have asked me why I don't photograph all this in a club instead of driving far more than 16,000 km through Germany, Austria and Belgium. There are several reasons for that:

We show a small cross-section from many different training sites/dojos and from different states. So we represent our sport more than just one club.

There are very many amateur athletes from young to old who have the opportunity to appear in a reference book, because the book series is only about game principles, not about the accuracy of specific techniques. This fills especially the children and young people with pride when they are part of our sports system. The more people I can make happy with it and bind them to our sport, the better. By the way, the youngest participants were five years old, and the oldest participant was 86 years old.

As explained at the beginning of the book, mass sport is the most important basis of any association. With the photos the popular sport as well as the home coach is presented. With the athlete presentations as well as national coaches you have an insight into the top sport. The top judges and top coaches of the special kind. Budosport reflect another important branch of our sport. And that's exactly why the huge effort to travel to so many different clubs and states or even neighboring countries.

In addition, the reader always has variety when browsing and does not always see the same three four people on all pages. Perhaps you will also recognize someone with whom you have already trained or by whom you have already been trained.

The organization for the clubs was in this case connected with additional expenditure, because all participants had to sign a declaration of consent for the picture use. With minors logically the parents. Then it had to fit temporally between the examination calendar, competition calendar, celebration calendar etc.. Furthermore, a certain number of participants was necessary for certain matches, which either should not be exceeded or not fallen short of. In some courses only judoka were required, in some jiu-jitsuka/ju-jutsuka. And again at some courses we had the great opportunity to train together and learn from each other across disciplines from Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Karate to Taekwondo. These are great experiences that we should initiate more often in every club. Far away from political association sensitivities - it is about athletes and the common togetherness. Everything else has no place on the mat. The many correspondence, the many checklists and the regular course management on site have cost all clubs a lot of time and energy. A huge thank you to all of you! Without you, this project would not have been possible. Without your many great "Budo athletes" it would have been only half as much fun and would not have resulted in these first two multifaceted Budo Games illustrated books as well as the currently still developing book volumes.

I was also pleased that some participants came more often to courses. Or children who preferred the Budo Games course despite their qualification for the district championship. It is normal to travel several kilometers to courses for license renewals or mandatory courses, but for the book project, some seminar participants traveled more than 300 km to the respective club. That impressed and pleased me! It's great that you live for our sport! More pictures will be published in the following volumes and there will certainly be some clubs added for the games on hold that still have to be photographed for the following volumes.

Thank you to top athletes, national coaches, coaches of a special kind and top judges.

You are the role models for the youth! You are role models for coaches! You have all trained hard for years, often reaching the throne of certain weight classes or official levels, working hard for this success and shaping our sport. Through your participation and presentation, you motivate others to stay on the ball. Children, youth and even coaches see you as figureheads and look to your behavior as well as your accomplishments for guidance. Each and every one of you has crossed my path in one way or another over the years. As a student I was in training with you and was allowed to learn from and with you. As a training partner, teammate or fellow squad member, we had beads of sweat dripping onto the mat together and rejoiced over victories or had overcome defeats together. Or as a coach I was allowed to accompany some of you on your way to the top of the world. As a referee I was allowed to experience many competitors already in the youth as a referee on the mat and here also as a young guy at that time the best world judges like Stephan Bode as a role model take. Or you have crossed my path in the course of the long Budo career and had impressed me with your actions or your performances as well as inspired. So one had fevered with you at competitions, cheered with you or also suffered with you. Thank you for being a part of our Budo world and for shaping it! Sport connects, especially our Budo sport.

Partner & Benefactor

Thank you Christian Schober, for accompanying me on several courses and your support for the project. You are there when you are needed - a rare commodity. You also provided material from the Kobudo store (www.budo-seminar-bedarf.de), so that the participants could train with handmade weapons. Already mentioned in the foreword, Oliver and Annett Schniecke from AMS deserve a big thank you for the sport promotion as well as the support of this book project. I would also like to thank the Ippon Shop under the management of Stefan Kneitinger. In particular, he gives discounts on purchases or club special conditions for participants of my courses or trainings. So also all buyers of this book will get 10% on their purchases on www.ippon-shop.de - You will find the coupon code at the end of each book. Thank you for this sponsorship in our sport
